Want to know more about Niigata?

Come to the library's computer lab and research Niigata online.

Browse Niigata, the Area of Plenty at the Galveston & Texas History Center (3rd Floor).

The City of Niigata, Japan, one of Galveston's "sister" cities, along with the Niigata Galveston Committee, raised $30,000 for Hurricane Ike disaster relief and helped in Galveston tree reforestation activities along Rosenberg Boulevard. The Rosenberg Library Museum houses a large collection of gifts and artwork from Niigata school children, as well as gifts given to visiting Galvestonians.

What is a Sister City?

Niigata, Japan, has seven Sister Cities:
Galveston, Texas, United States; Khabarovsk, Birobidzhan and Vladivostok, Russia; Harbin, China; Nantes, France; Ulsan, South Korea

Galveston's Sister Cities:
Armavir, Armenia; Niigata, Japan; Stavanger, Norway; Tamsui, Taiwan; Trivandrum, India; Veracruz, Mexico
