Books should be returned to the library from which they were borrowed if possible, but any library in the Galveston County Library System
will accept books from the other county libraries. Books may also be returned to either of the library's drop boxes located at the library (inside the main hall near the circulation desk and on the north side of the building) or at Moody Methodist Church on 53rd and Avenue U parking lot. Note:
Books left at Moody Methodist are picked up by the library on Tuesdays and Fridays, and the library is closed on Sundays.
Teacher Extended Loan:
All library materials, except for 2 weeks books, may be checked out for a period of six weeks. Teacher extended loan is a service extended primarily to local school teachers and, at the discretion of the department head, to other patrons planning extended stays on vacation. Teachers must show proof of their employment. Only books that are to be used as instructional aides in some manner qualify as extended loan items.
Patrons are responsible for returning materials to the library on time. As a courtesy, the library will send out an email notification prior to the item due date to patrons who have provided the library with their email address. Patrons are encouraged to renew materials on-line
in advance of due dates to avoid fines. Please note that items with holds may not be renewed. As a further courtesy, the library will also send an overdue notice by regular mail to patrons when their materials are more than 10 days overdue.
The overdue fine for new books is $0.25 per day, and $0.10 for all other materials. The maximum fine per item is $5.00. The fine for ILL (interlibrary loan) material is $1.00 per day, with no maximum.
Patrons will be billed by mail for the full price of the item plus a processing fee for any items that are more than 90 days overdue, and the patron’s borrowing privileges will be suspended until obligations are met.
The library can only accept cash and checks.
To avoid incurring fines, provide the library with an email address. (Contact Circulation at 409-763-8854 ext. 111.) As a courtesy, the library will send out an email notification prior to the item due date
