Local Author Kathleen Maca

Tuesday, September 28th at 7:00 pm
Local author Kathleen Maca will read stories from her book and talk about researching Galveston’s spooky tales in a small group setting. Recommended for ages 7+. Pre-registration required and space is limited to children only, please.

Harry Potter Night of Wizardry Drop-In

Thursday, October 21st between 5:00 – 8:00 pm
Spellbinding fun for all ages!

Kids Role Playing Game

Tuesdays, November 2nd, 9th, and 16th at 4:30 pm
We’ll be playing a RPG tabletop game of creative make-believe, adventure, and storytelling. Newcomers welcome and encouraged! Recommended for ages 5+. Space is limited.

The Young Immigrant

Tuesday, November 23rd at 2:30 or 7:00 pm
There’s an immigration story somewhere in the background of all families. The sheer determination and bravery of people forced to leave their homes for a brand new land is inspirational. We’ll share some of these experiences, talk about Henry Rosenberg’s life and learn about other research from the Galveston & Texas History Center.

RPG: A How-To Guide for Families

Wednesday, November 24th at 2:30 pm
Interested in what all the hype is about? Learn how you can have fun with your family playing role-playing games. Recommended for families with kids ages 5+.

Drop-In Elves’ Workshop

Saturday, November 27th at 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Santa’s helper elves (aka kids + families) are invited to create Christmas cheer, and make special presents. Drop-in any time between 10:00 am – 12:00 pm to enjoy seasonal magic. Dress your kids up as elves if you want!

Paws to Read

Wednesdays, beginning September 8th at 4:30 pm
Readers practice their skills by sharing stories with Diva, the book-loving dog. She’s friendly and non-judgmental. Each reader gets an individual session with the therapy dog who is accompanied by a handler. Please sign in at Children’s Desk upon arrival; availability for four (4) readers.

Baby Talk*

Tuesdays, beginning September 14th at 9:30 am
A program specially designed for our youngest patrons and their significant others. We’ll share rhymes, simple, stories, songs, and a puppet or two and throw in some early literacy tips. Recommended for 0 – 24 months.

Storytime*

Wednesdays, beginning September 15th at 10:00 am
A playful program featuring singing, storytelling, movement, and more planned to promote early literacy develpoment and to encourage one-on-one interaction between children ages 2 – 5 and their caregivers.

Stories on Demand

Saturday mornings at your leisure every Saturday after Labor Day
Saturday stories, now on demand! Come in to request a story read aloud by one of our children’s staff members anytime between 10:00 and 11:00 am.

Countdown to Christmas Stories

Every afternoon, November 23rd – December 23rd at 4:30 pm
We’re unwrapping a children’s book and reading it with you and your family in the Children’s Department each of the twenty-five (25) days the library is open before Christmas.

Reading an additional story is easy. If you want to hear a Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, or other winter celebration book, let the storyteller of the day know. Libraries are for everyone. We value all cultural experiences.
