The Rosenberg Library in Galveston, Texas seeks an organized, consistent, professional, detail oriented, safety-conscious, resource-minded individual that thrives on solving problems.
This position is responsible for the efficient operation of the maintenance department, including custodial care of facilities and grounds, meeting room support services, minor repairs, and preventive maintenance of building systems. This role also ensures enforcement of the Library’s Code of Conduct to maintain a safe, respectful environment for staff and the public; oversees outside vendors performing repairs and support services; and ensures prudent management of budgetary resources.
Essential Functions
Supervision and management responsibilities:
- In consultation with Assistant Director and administrative staff, establishes goals, priorities, and expectations for the maintenance department including the formulation and implementation of action plans and strategies for accomplishing goals and priorities.
- Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality, seamless customer service.
- Plans, coordinates, schedules, assigns and manages day-to-day maintenance department activities including employee supervision, training, work assignments, careful review of employee time records, performance evaluation, recommendations for hiring/terminations and problem resolution.
Facilities responsibilities:
- Conducts regular inspections of building facilities to determine maintenance and repair needs; monitors and coordinates maintenance and repair of all building systems, including electrical, HVAC, mechanical and plumbing systems, etc.; ensures that preventive maintenance activities are performed in a timely, efficient manner. Troubleshoots and works to resolve routine maintenance problems and implements corrective actions.
- As appropriate, contacts, coordinates and monitors repairs and inspections of the facilities by outside vendors and inspectors to ensure timely, safe, efficient, cost-effective work order completion; works to resolve problems; inspects completed jobs for quality assurance and immediately reports problems to Assistant Director.
- Provides facilities support and maintenance services for meetings, receptions and special functions including monitoring the meeting room schedule, handling food safely, resolving problems, and assisting with the operation of equipment, etc.
- Ensures proper care in the use and storage of maintenance equipment and supplies by maintenance staff; ensures proper safety and health precautions are followed; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Monitors building and grounds to prevent violations of Library’s personal conduct policy.
- Inventories and orders materials and supplies to ensure adequate stock and serviceability of necessary maintenance supplies and equipment; ensures that purchases are made in a cost-effective manner.
- Maintains accurate inventory records, files, logs, spreadsheets, and reports related to personnel, inventory, supplies, work requests, work performed and safety; immediately reports thefts to Administration and police department.
Customer service responsibilities:
- Interacts professionally with the public, vendors, staff and management team; maintains effective working relationships.
- Handles complaints and works diligently to address problems.
- Provides support services for staff, Friends volunteers and patrons as needed.
Safety/security responsibilities:
- Monitors and promptly responds to radio security calls from staff; contacts local police as necessary to deal with uncooperative or dangerous visitors.
- Responds promptly to operational and/or security incidents; takes appropriate action in emergency situations to protect safety of personnel and property; actively seeks to identify potential safety hazards and recommends and implements corrective action in a timely manner.
- Promptly reports building and equipment problems, malfunctions, thefts, sanitary hazards, suspicious behavior, personnel issues, unsafe conditions and problems with visitors and staff to Assistant Director. Takes appropriate corrective action to ensure building safety and theft prevention. Observes safe working habits and practices.
- Manages record keeping software to track problem visitors.
Additional responsibilities:
- Provides timely reports to Assistant Director on the status of assigned and pending projects and issues. Follows through on all pending projects and issues; keeps Assistant Director and administrative staff posted on progress in completing projects, goals, and pending problem resolutions.
- Promptly reviews invoices for accuracy, codes invoices and delivers invoices to Controller for payment.
- Run errands; safely operate motor vehicles. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned or needed. Performs a variety of field building maintenance tasks and assists as needed on maintenance & security activities as the position of maintenance supervisor is a working position.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent and five (5) years in facilities operations, including janitorial services, building maintenance, and groundskeeping, with at least two (2) years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be physically fit enough to operate necessary cleaning equipment including vacuums, carpet extractors and floor equipment.
- The candidate must be agile enough to bend to reach low shelves and to climb a ladder, and strong enough to lift loads of up to forty (40) pounds.
Terms of Employment:
Full time on site, some evenings and Saturdays possible. The Library offers a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, an employer-sponsored 401(k), 12 vacation days (increases to 15 days after three years), 12 paid holidays, and 12 sick days per year.

The Rosenberg Library in Galveston, Texas seeks a dependable, customer-focused technical support employee to ensure library staff and public technology systems operate efficiently and reliably. This role supports daily operations, special projects, and technology initiatives across the library.
This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading computers, printers, networking components, and audiovisual equipment; preparing new devices for service; supporting regular system testing; asset tracking; and meeting room technology setup.
Essential Functions
Customer service responsibilities:
- Assists with providing training and support in computers and computer applications for library staff.
- Works with all Rosenberg Library departments as assigned by the Computer Services Manager for special projects, including hardware and software research, technology program planning/setup, staff training and education.
- Coordinates meeting room audiovisual equipment setup and breakdown to ensure successful meetings.
Documentation and Education responsibilities:
- Works with the Computer Services Manager to develop educational material and classes for library staff.
- Works with the Computer Services Department to document technical procedures.
Computer Support responsibilities:
- Works with the Desktop Support Engineer to do basic computer and device updates and repairs such as Wi-Fi access points, desktop updates, etc.
- Maintains, troubleshoots, diagnoses, repairs and upgrades public and staff computers, printers and related equipment. Ensures that computer equipment in the library is functioning efficiently. Installs software and prepares new machines for service.
- Installs and maintains all audiovisual equipment and software as assigned.
- Tests computers on a rotating basis to ensure that computer systems are functioning properly and helps maintain assets database for annual equipment refresh.
- Maintains and upgrades designated computer systems or provides recommendations on upgrades needed.
- Assists with maintaining networking systems, infrastructure, cabling, backups and software as assigned.
Additional responsibilities:
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date documentation for library staff including how-to for hardware and software use.
- Maintains adequate inventory of all Computer Services supplies.
- Project management, audiovisual setup.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of basic computer hardware upgrades and repair.
- Current industry-recognized IT certificates and/or internship a plus.
